TASKS
Task 3B: Type Design & Communication

Week 11
(08/06/2021)
For this final task, we were opt to design a sticker based on the 36 festivals that we listed out. We were required to express typographically a social message/greeting relevant to the campus community at Taylor's University or society at large.

keynotes:
• size: 512x512 px
• 10 typeface
• colour: black & white
• minor visual elements

Out of the 36 festivals listed out, I decided to choose "Happy Women's Day". Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Therefore, below are my sketches of my design.

After I'm done sketching, I then proceed to Illustrator to digitalize my design.

Figure 1.1: Sticker Digitisation (08/06/2021)

I sought feedback from my peers as well as Mr. Vinod and Mr. Sam on the sticker design options. Hence, I decided to go with the 3rd option and did a few amendments based on their suggestions.

I realized that I missed out on the word for 'International', as its supposed to be "Happy International Women's Day". I then added the 'International' and below are my progress.

Week 12
(15/06/2021)
Mr. Vinod commented on my sticker design and asked me to improvise the 'D' as it looks crooked, and reduce the spacing of my letterforms. Hence, I did the amendment based on Mr. Vinod's feedbacks.

Then I proceed on the color design for my sticker

Figure 1.5 Sticker Colour 2 (15/06/2021)

The initial color that I decided to go was: PURPLE, GREEN, and WHITE as they symbolize The Colours of  International Women's Day (IWD).

Figure 1.4: Information on the IWD Colours (15/06/2021)

After another round of feedbacks, Mr. Vinod commented on my sticker and told me to look upon a color palette to make the color fit and suit the theme that I wanted to, as well as the sharp outlines on the sticker, wasn't necessary. Hence, I curved them accordingly. After so many trials and error on the process of the sticker color, these are the best color option that I've come up with.

Figure 1.5: Sticker Colour Palette (15/06/2021)

I decided to go with the 1st option, as the color pops up more than the others and also symbolizes clearly the International Women's Day color. I seek a lot of feedback from my peers, where most of them preferred the 1st option. Therefore, this is the final sticker design I'm going with.

Before I finalized everything, I seek my very last feedback from Mr. Vinod, and he told that he prefer the colorful option (Option 1) which is the sticker that I'm going for. Mr. Vinod suggested me to add the stroke on the 'O' as it could stand out more.

and that concludes Task 3B!

FEEDBACKS

Week 11
• General Feedback: Mr Vinod suggests us to enlarge our sticker design by maximising the whole artboard as well as some key points on our sticker design: reducing the counter space & minimal use of graphics. And digitise the sticker design using Black & White colour only before adding colours to it!

• Specific Feedback: Mr Vinod commented on my sticker design and asked me to focus on one graphics elements and did some minor amendments. Do not distort the font!

Week 12
• General Feedback:Mr Vinod suggests us to study on our festival on what it is exactly and simplify the elements that we added in our sticker design.

• Specific Feedback:Mr Vinod asked me to look up on colour palettes and refer to them for my sticker design colour.

REFLECTIONS

Week 11
• Experience: I found out that it's hard for me to express the words without emphasising on the graphics. I did look up on some inspiration, and most of the designs are heavily relied on graphics elements.

• Observation: By the time I sketch, I've had a few ideas in which I wanted it to look like and I did illustrate on my design. However, I'd say I wasn't happy with the work progress as it looks pretty plain.

• Findings: I did asked feedbacks from my family and my peers in regards of my sticker design, I realised that asking other people opinion is much more better as it gives more details and insight personally from them. It is said that "two heads are better than ones".

Week 12
• Experience: It's the end of the final task!!! I'm very glad and proud of myself that I've made this far and throughout of this process, I've learnt so much!! It was a generally enjoyable experience, although I faced some difficulties and found myself struggling on every task, I'm so thankful for Mr Vinod and Mr Sam as well as my peers who constantly provide feedbacks for me to improve better week by week.

• Observation:As for this final task, adding minor details makes an impact on the design and I found out it hard to design a small piece of sticker. I believed I'll never reach perfection because there's always room for improvement, yet to get along the way to perfection, I'll learn to get better. I'd say that I'm satisfied with all my works that I've worked on during the whole semester with a lot of efforts, seeking feedbacks here and there, a lot of ranting and crying. I managed to keep going on without giving up and I'm proud of myself.

• Findings: Designing stickers involves a lot of time, patience and many considerations by creating one small piece of stickers. Big thanks especially to Mr Vinod and Mr Sam, for being so patience and for creating an environment (class) where we aren't only allowed to succeed but also to gain better understanding of this module by analysing from different perception in which we can view anything.

Through this book, I understood the art of visual communication is the arrangement of design elements in a way that is balanced, visually appealing and most importantly, effectively delivers its intended message to the target audience. This full-colour tutorial serves as an introduction to understand the art of visual communication and the creative process of design.
